ABOUT THE VENUE
Waitress will be performed at the historic Ritz Theatre & Museum in Downtown Jacksonville! Originally opened in 1929 as a movie house for African American audiences, the Ritz has evolved into a state-of-the-art performance venue and cultural institution celebrating the legacy of Black history and artistry in Northeast Florida. With seating for over 400 guests and an adjacent museum featuring dynamic, community-rooted exhibits, the Ritz offers an inspiring setting for this special production.
An irresistible tale of love, dreams, and the perfect slice of hope.
Waitress the Musical serves up a heartfelt story of resilience, friendship, and the pursuit of happiness, all baked into one unforgettable slice of musical theatre. Jenna, a gifted pie maker at Joe’s Pie Diner, feels trapped in an unhappy marriage and longs for a fresh start. When an unexpected pregnancy complicates her dreams, she turns to her pies as both an escape and a reflection of her emotions. As she searches for a way forward, Jenna begins to realize that the recipe for happiness might be within her reach—if she finds the courage to take the first step.
With the support of her fiercely loyal and delightfully quirky co-workers, Becky and Dawn, Jenna navigates life’s challenges with humor, heart, and a generous dash of Southern charm. A chance encounter with the town’s new doctor sparks a connection that reminds her of the passion and joy she’s nearly forgotten. As she grapples with love, loss, and the uncertainty of motherhood, Jenna must decide whether to keep settling for the life she knows or risk everything for the one she truly deserves.
Featuring Sara Bareilles’ deeply moving score, including the show-stopping “She Used to Be Mine,” Waitress blends humor, heartache, and hope into a story that resonates with audiences of all ages. A celebration of friendship, self-discovery, and the courage to embrace change, Waitress is a feel-good musical that will leave you inspired—and craving more.
