This March and April, we’re inviting you into something a little different.
Every Brilliant Thing isn’t just a play you sit and watch. It’s an experience you’re part of.
In this intimate, immersive production, the audience joins the performer onstage, surrounding the story as it unfolds in real time. With only 50 – 60 seats per performance, every night offers something personal, immediate, and entirely unique.
At its heart, Every Brilliant Thing is about the small things that make life worth living.
After their mother attempts to take her life, a young person begins creating a list—everything brilliant about the world. Ice cream. Laughing so hard you snort. Staying up past your bedtime. What begins as a child’s simple act of hope grows over time, shaped by relationships, setbacks, and life’s unexpected turns. As the list evolves, so does its meaning, becoming a deeply personal way of making sense of the world and holding onto hope when it feels hardest to find.
Told with humor, honesty, and direct audience involvement, the story unfolds as a shared experience. Participation is gentle, guided, and always voluntary — but the connection it creates between performer and audience is what makes this piece so powerful.
“The story unfolds through intentional audience involvement, and the ability for the audience to see each other throughout the performance is just as important as what’s happening in the script.”
“For starters, the audience will sit on the stage, fully surrounding the performer,” Managing Director Bradley Akers explains. “The story unfolds through intentional audience involvement, and the ability for the audience to see each other throughout the performance is just as important as what’s happening in the script.”
This production also marks a special return to the stage for two beloved local artists, Lindsay Curry and Jillianne Tamillo, who will rotate performances throughout the run. With a combined 30+ years of storytelling across Northeast Florida stages, both artists bring their own unique perspective to the role, making each performance a little different, and entirely worth experiencing more than once.
“This is a beautifully rare opportunity in Jacksonville,” says Akers. “Having two performers bring their own unique perspective and method of storytelling to the same script makes each performance more intimate and uniquely special.”
And while audience participation is a key element of the experience, there’s no pressure. Only invitation.
“We want audiences to feel safe, supported, and taken care of,” says Akers. “Participation is always guided and voluntary. What we’ve found is that once people settle into the experience, they often want to be part of it.”
Every Brilliant Thing is a reminder that even in life’s most difficult moments, there is still beauty to be found—sometimes in the smallest, most unexpected places.
“We hope audiences become so immersed in the experience that they begin to see their own stories unfolding on the stage,” Akers adds.
