– ABOUT THE PLAY –

Four beautiful, bada$$ women lose their heads in this irreverent, girl-powered comedy set during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. Playwright Olympe de Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen (and fan of ribbons) Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat, and try to beat back the extremist insanity in 1793 Paris. This grand and dream-tweaked comedy is about violence and legacy, art and activism, feminism and terrorism, compatriots and chosen sisters, and how we actually go about changing the world. It’s a true story. Or total fiction. Or a play about a play. Or a raucous resurrection…that ends in a song and a scaffold.

– PREPARATIONS –

  • You will be asked to participate in cold readings from the script.
  • Please bring a headshot and resume. (A selfie is okay in lieu of a professional headshot!)
  • Please bring ALL known conflicts from JUNE 9 – SEPTEMBER 22. The rehearsal schedule will be based on conflicts submitted by cast members.
  • Full cast availability is expected from SEPTEMBER 2 – SEPTEMBER 12.

— REHEARSAL INFORMATION —

  • Although the schedule is currently not set, productions typically rehearse select weeknights (Monday – Friday, anywhere between 6:30pm – 10:00pm.) Occasional weekend rehearsals may occur depending on the conflicts and needs of the production.
  • Rehearsals are held at Players by the Sea (106 6th Street North, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250). In the rare event of scheduling conflicts within our facility, alternative rehearsal locations will be provided with reasonable notice.

– AVAILABLE ROLES –

* Non-equity only *

* Please note — there is a song that is sung acapella at the end of the show. Although we are not prioritizing musical skill or experience, we wanted to make sure that interested performers know that there will be light singing in the production. *

Olympe De Gouges
Female Identifying, Any Race/Ethnicity, 30-60
Bad*ss activist playwright and feminist. Theatre nerd, excitable, self-centered, passionate. Widowed and never remarried to ensure her personal freedom.

Marianne Angelle
Female Identifying, Black/African Descent, 20-40
A bad*ss Black woman originally from the Caribbean. A free woman and a spy, working with her husband. Tough, classy, intelligent, and totally sane.

Charlotte Corday
Female Identifying, Any Race/Ethnicity, 18-40
Bad*ss country girl and assassin. Very serious, hardened by righteousness, never been kissed and just a tiny bit short of batsh*t crazy. Also plays Fraternite (male oppressor) in a mask.

Marie Antoinette
Female Identifying, Caucasian, 20-50
Less bad*ss, but fascinating former queen of France. Bubbly, graceful, glamorous, opinionated, and often totally unaware. Never had a real friend until now and never realized she needed one. Also plays Fraternite (male oppressor) in a mask.
